We had the honor of surprising the district's two nominees for the Kansas Horizon Award in their classrooms today! Through reviewing staff, student, and parent feedback along with building administrator recommendations, the district selected Ali Mohney, FACS teacher at Clark Middle School, and Sarah Alas, 2nd grade teacher at Delaware Ridge Elementary, to represent USD 204 in the 2025 program. The Horizon Award, sponsored by the KS State Department of Education, identifies and recognizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms having completed their first year of teaching in a PreK-12 Kansas school. Congratulations to our BRAVE educators! Both are excellent representatives of their schools, our district, and the community.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the Bonner Springs Rotary Club presented dictionaries to each student in the third grade. Students will be able to use these throughout the school year and then keep them to support their education going forward. Students were excited to see all of the extras included in the dictionaries that were provided, including social studies, science, and mathematical resources.
Next week we will be taking part in the BSHS Homecoming fun by having a Spirit Week. Join in if you would like!
Trash Bag Sale forms should be coming home TODAY! Please remember that we only sell these in the fall so remind your friends and neighbors to stock up while they can. Orders can also be placed online: https://bonnersprings.revtrak.net/Delaware-Ridge-Elementary/dre-trash-bag-fundraiser-23/#/list
Yesterday DRE PreK students spent time reading different versions of The Gingerbread Man, including The Gingerbread Man: Loose In The School. To their surprise, their classroom gingerbread man went missing. Students worked hard to create missing flyers, then searched the school to find him, meeting various staff along the way. From Nurse Flack, who had bandaged him up, to Ms. Megan and Ms. Miller in the office, and several other teachers along the way. Just like in the story, he was ultimately found hanging out with the principal. Dr. Archer even shared a fun video of him spinning in the office chair as the character in the book had done. It was so much fun to bring this story to life!
Picture Day is coming up on September 20th.
